New Event Upcoming
"Spread the Cheer with Beer" and wine and cheese
Note from Kelly: This month will have a couple gallery tastings, a cask ale festival, a food/beer tasting with Edible Manhattan Magazine, three great seasonal beers, and a runup to the NY Foodbank Charity Event, “Spread the Cheer” (link above). We got a new batch of “Beer Helps” t-shirts in, and so now have women’s sizes. Not too late to get your order in for the Holidays (yikes).
That being said, we hope everyone is doing well in the tough economy, and are extremely grateful that you choose Kelso to help you through it. Symbiotic relationship, no?
BEERS ON TAP

- Hop Lager: Floor malted British barley and German noble hops give this pale lager a full, smooth flavor, spicy hop nose, and a crisp herbal finish.5.5% alc/vol.
- Pilsner: Floral nose, slightly sweet, with a dry finish. A classic European pils. 5.5% alc/vol
Seasonally
Currently, we’re offering the following seasonal selections:
- Satisfaction: Delicate malt background and fresh flavors of English hops make this “fall session” ale very enjoyable, and, dare we say, satisfying. 3.5% alc/vol.
- Flemish Red Ale: We make this beer every September and serve a year later, allowing full flavor maturation for complexity. 5.5% alc/vol. Shipped this week.
- Shipping week of 11/10-Chocolate Lager: Bold flavors of chocolate coffee dominate the nose and palate of this bold, dark lager. The finish is smooth and surprisingly light. 6.5% alc/vol. This tasty treat is available November to February.
Other Seasonal Offerings:
COMING SOON, the Return of . . . . . St. Gowanus: Belgian Style Golden Ale: Hoppy, crisp, dry. 5.5%alc/vol. This beer will be available on and off throughout the year.
- Saison: Notes of citrus, strawberry, hay, and a hint of clove make this unique Belgian style ale complex yet satisfying. 5% alc/vol. Typically availalble April to August. This is the “famed” “wedding beer”.
Beers to be
- Gueze: Sour, golden, refreshing. Not for the timid. Jake brought back some starter from Cantillon in Brussels. Worked it up from there.Probably blend and add some fruit at some point. Whatever is in season. 5%alc/vol.
- Note as of 11/5. Tasting pretty good. Looking for fruit.
- Brett: Belgian Golden Ale refermented w/ wild yeast for six months. Coming along nicely. Flavors are getting more refreshing and crisp as the moths wear on. Will let you know more as we know more.
- Also tasting pretty good as of 11/5. Letting sit until we sell out of Flemish, then see how it goes.

St. Gowanus Release Party Roundup Thank all of you who attended the St. Gowanus release party at Sheep Station last week. Much fun, and indeed beer, was had by all.
Two announcements: The winner of the Trivia Contest, and the winner of the Essay Contest (a very intellectual event, this release party).
Congratulations to Cathy Erway for the best of many submitted essays (4). I’ve post her essay on “What the Gowanus Means to Me” on our website at www.kelsoofbrooklyn.com/st_gowanus_release_party
Congratulations to Melissa for winning the Trivia Contest (9 of 10). Since she didn’t put any contact info down, and I was talking too much to give results at the bar, she’ll have a couple weeks to claim her prize: free appetizer at Sheep Station or a growler of Kelso at Bierkraft. Otherwise, we’ll go to the second place winner, Nick, our friendly bartender at Sheep Station, who was one of the first to get more than 5 right (7 total). His choices are limited.
As always, please let us know by return if you’d like to be taken off this list.
